Each singer will have less than 90 short frantic stressful seconds to impress the public. There will be three groups composed of twelve singers per group. Tonight we will hear from the first group. But only three from each group will stay. And we will also have three “wild cards” added later on. Who will stay with high hopes? Who will leave with shattered dreams? Here is my recap of the first dozen hopefuls. And, don’t you dare not vote!. And remember, the toll free number is 1 -866 IDOLS- Jackie Tohn was first up with “A Little Less Conversation.” Her goal was to get Paula up and dancing. And ya know what? She very nicely jazzed it up, commanded the stage, and got Paula dancing. And if you like her, and I sure did, call 1-866-436-5701 to vote for Jackie. Before American Idol, Ricky Braddy had been employed cooking chicken and decided “hey, I gotta take the shot.” So he took off his apron and tonight he sang “A Song For You.” The singing was okay, but he didn’t seem fully relaxed with a few flat notes and high notes that were short of target. He was not that impressive. He needs to do better. Call 1-866-436-5702 to vote for Ricky. A dirtied up makeover version of Alexis Grace excitingly sang “Never Loved A Man” with a gutsy blues feeling that made her stand out from the others. She has a real chance in this competition. Call 1-866-436-5703 to vote for Alexis. Living paycheck to paycheck, Brent Keith brought some
country music to the stage singing “ Anoop Desai wants us to feel his energy in every song he
sings. Tonight he sang “Angel of Mine” but he has done much better. His tone
was shallow. It was like scratching off a thin layer of lacquer to find pressed
plywood chips underneath. He failed to find his energy and I started to doze
off. Call 1-866-436-5706 to vote for Anoop. Leaving the snow and
ice of Oil rig roughneck family man Michael Sarver relaxingly sang “I Don’t Wanna Be.” I really like this man’s story and determination. I like the way he talks about his wife and children. But tonight his singing didn’t impress me. It was just average like a local bar singer. I think he failed to impress us and tonight everyone of these hopefuls has to sparkle. He didn’t. Call 1-866-436-5708 to vote for Michael. Anne Marie Boskovich is a demo singer and waitress who wants to make it big. Tonight she sang “Natural Woman” with a gentleness that reminded me of a summer rain bringing relief and pause in a busy schedule. I can sit back and really enjoy her voice because she has a talent that needs to be heard and appreciated. I hope that she will be back. Call 1-866-436-5709 to vote for Anne Marie. Forgetting the lyrics may be the former trademark of musician Stephen Fowler, but tonight he sang “Rock With You” without missing a word. Nonetheless, he swallowed his intro and never seemed comfortable. It was a poor performance that probably wouldn’t get him into a high school talent contest finals and he certainly is not American Idol material. He could easily be leaving. Call 1-866-436-5710 to vote for Stephen. Ah, then we had the always annoying, always theatrical Tatiana Nicole Del Toro whose playful giddy giggles would wake the near dead. Tonight she sang “I Am Saving All My Love For You.” How did she do, this drama queen? Her voice had a surprising maturity that is more pleasant than her neurotic personality would have otherwise suggested. A few of her low notes were flat but otherwise she did well. I think that this was her best performance thus far. Call 1-866-436-5711 to vote for Tatiana. Wisconsin badger and church music director Danny Gokey is a grieving widower who sang “Hero” as his song to find inner strength but his voice was too shallow to give the song its needed depth. And the ending was tired. Danny has certainly sung better and will be undoubtedly return next week, but he needs to kick it up a notch to make a stand against some of the stronger singers. Call 1-866-436-5712 to vote for Danny. And that, my friends, concludes the first group of twelve singers. Vote for your favorite and then return here tomorrow night for my recap of the three singers that will be advancing to the final 12 that is written just for you.
