And tonight not only will we have a double elimination, but there is something new called “the judges save.” This is a unique option given to the four judges who think that someone who was voted out should be given a second chance. But it comes with a tough stickler criteria—the judges must be unanimous in their decision and the save is only allowed one time for the entire season. Thus when they use it, it must be used very judiciously. The judges will have this “save” option up to the Top 5. After that, the judges “save” is gone. We then paused for some first class entertainment from Kanye West singing “Heartless” from his multi-platinum album. Watching him and then remembering Jasmine’s performance is the difference between being a superstar compared to a high school regional singer champion. There is no comparison. Ryan then called off the last seven names: Scott MacIntyre, Alexis Grace, Danny Gokey, Anoop Desai, Adam Lambert, Jorge Nunez, and Lil Rounds. It was Anoop and Jorge who headed to the stage. However before Ryan announced who was going home, he paused for a commercial and returned with American Idol Season One winner, Kelly Clarkson performing her latest hit “My Life Would Suck Without You” from her “All I Ever Wanted” album. She said that she loves music and the album is a combination of urban, dance and county. And for all you probable suitors, she revealed that she is “not in a relationship” at this time. Lastly we came back to the stage with two very worried men waiting to hear the results. Would it be Anoop Desai or would it be Jorge Nunez heading home? Ryan announced that Anoop was safe and Jorge would be heading home. While the judges conferred for the second time this evening, Jorge sang a weak version of “Never Say Good-Bye.” And it was Simon who announced “no, sorry” that Jorge would not be saved. It was a solid decision. So you American Idol fans, we are down to the Top Eleven. Return here next week for my recap that is written just for you.
