American Idol- "The Final Eleven Battle It Out", March 17, 2009

By Marcus

Country western icon Randy Travis was this week’s coach for the eleven contestants during ‘The Grand Ole Opry” celebration.

First up was Michael Sarver singing “Did He Do It?.” You could tell that he was enjoying himself tremendously and was quite proud that he remembered all those words while singing like a machine gun pistol. He actually seemed gleeful! Call 1 866 436 5701 to vote for Michael.

Allison Iraheta continues her championship run towards the Idol crown with a spicy rendition of “Blame It On Your Heart.” This amazing talent is wrapped in a sixteen year old body whose vocals are mature and exciting. Call 1 866 436 5702 to vote for Allison.

Kris Allen tenderly sang “Make You Feel My Love.” There was no country twang in his version but he initially appeared nervous singing without his security blanket guitar. Although it was a solid performance, he didn’t ignite any rockets. Call 1 866 436 5703 to vote for Kris.

Reining in her R & B talent, Lil Rounds sang “Independence Day.” She is not a country singer and that was obvious, but she tried to make it her own with a couple power notes that the audience loved. Let’s hope that next week she is back into her groove. Call 1 866 436 5704 to vote for Lil.

There was no country music within several thousand miles of Adam Lambert’s “Ring Of Fire.” He served this Johnny Cash classic in a middle eastern kabob, spiced with sitar music, and flamed by the heat from his eyes. It was uniquely Adam. Call 1 866 436 5705 to vote for Adam.

Scott MacIntyre was off his stride with a boring rendition of “Wild Angels.” He never seemed comfortable and there was nothing that held our attention. Call   1 866 436 5706 to vote for Scott.

It was a safe and calm performance by Alexis Grace with “Jolene.” She sang it with feeling but she did nothing to make it her own. It was like she was trying too hard to be a younger version of Dolly Parton. Call 1 866 436 5707 to vote for Alexis.

Danny Gokey seemed to struggle with the first half of “Jesus Take The Wheel” but then he found his vocal power and cut loose with a strong finish. He continues to be a major contender for this season. Call 1 866 436 5708 to vote for Danny.

After last week’s dismal performance, Anoop Desai had to pick up the pace and get back into the race. And that is exactly what he did with “You Are Always On My Mind.” He made the song his song and copied no one. He again has shown us why he was chosen to be here and he is thoroughly back into the competition. Tonight he rocked. Call 1 866 436 5709 to vote for Anoop.

An ailing Megan Joy Corkrey fought through her influenza and stirred up her own mix of blues, jazz and soul into “I Go Out Walking After Midnight” producing a truly unique sound. She certainly deserves to return next week. Call 1 866 436 5710 to vote for Megan.

Last up with perhaps the best performance of the evening was Matt Giraud singing his soulful version of  “So Small.” He again impresses us with his quiet manner and huge talent. He is also a heavy contender. Call 1 866 436 5711 to vote for Matt.

And that raps up tonight’s competition for these eleven contestants. Now, start voting and make sure that you return here tomorrow night for my recap written just for you.
