American Idol - "The Top Eleven Drops One", March 18, 2009

By Marcus

Over 31 million votes were cast and someone will be heading home with a suitcase full of memories and a diary full of the “could have beens.” But before any results would be shared, the eleven performed “Trouble” as group and you know what? They were pretty good.

And don’t forget that the four judges have yet to issue their singular “judges save” decision.

Ryan Seacrest called Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai to standup for the results of the bottom three. They were all safe. He then called upon Allison Iraheta and Michael Sarver to take the first two of the three bottom seats.

Before another singer was sent to the third seat, we listened to country western star Brad Paisley début his newest single, “Then.”

And then back to Ryan who announced that Scott MacIntyre, Megan Joy Corkrey, Matt Giraud, Kris Allen and punk rocker Adam Lambert were all safe. That left Alexis Grace to take the third seat.

Ryan asked the three to join with him in the center of the stage where he quickly announced that Allison Iraheta was safe and she joined the others. Now we are down to the bottom two: Alexis and Michael. One of them is going home and one will at the least join the American Idol Top Ten Tour. Who is going? Who is staying?

But we paused to listen to the newly recorded song “I Told You So” performed by Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis who also wrote the song. For Carrie, it was a double night of excitement because she is an American Idol and a recent inductee into the Grand Ole Opry.  It was a beautiful song and she sang it full of emotion and connectedness.

And then we returned to the decision. Ryan announced that Michael was safe and Alexis Grace (by the way that is a beautiful sounding name) could only be saved by the judges. Knowing that this could be her final performance, she sang her heart out with “Jolene” but it just wasn’t good enough to earn the “Judges Save.” So it is goodbye to Alexis and hello to the Top Ten.

And remember to return right here next week for my recap written just for you.
