May 20, 2009 By Marcus How long does it take to say “…and the American Idol Winner is……?” Well, for Fox and the American Idol producers it took two
hours to finally find out the outcome of Season 8’s Idol Winner.
Take about dragging something out. Oh
well, it is a major hit TV series and one of the very few were the viewers are
actually empowered to crown the winner. So, we had to be patient. It is kind of
like waiting for the eruption of Grand Geyser at Just in case you have forgotten, the vote tally was just a little under 100 million votes to determine whether it will be Adam Lambert or Kris Allen winning the coveted Idol Crown. But that announced would have to simmer on the back burner while the show progressed. Tonight’s activities started off with the Top 13 singing “So What?” and then last year American Idol winner, David Cook, sang his new single, “Permanent.” Just think about this-----prior to American Idol, David Cook was just another underpaid bartender mixing and serving drinks with no thoughts of being a superstar. Now in less than one year after being crowned last season’s Idol, he is flipping drinks no more but instead is making hearts glad with his music and flashing personality. Yes, American Idol does change lives. Humm, I wonder if he has stopped back at the bar for free drink? The first duet was performed by Queen Latifah and Lil Rounds who was an early Idol favorite but just lost her way in each successive performance. It was like every time Lil performed, a little bit of her specialness faded away until she was a shell of what she had been. But she did quite well with the Queen singing “Cue The Rain.” Then we had a little Allison Iraheta who was the last girl standing sang “Time After Time” with Cyndi Lauper. And so very close to being in the two top, Danny Gokey sang a duet with Lionel Richie. Dressed in a Mad Max attire, Adam Lambert easily fit in with Kiss. But it was Carlos Santana who captured us with his wailing guitar playing “Black Magic Woman.” Putting aside jokes, physical comedy and impersonations, Steve Martin picked up his banjo and brought a little sunshine of Appalachian Mountain music into our homes playing his own composition called “Pretty Flowers” with Megan Joy and Michael Sarver singing. Singer and songwriter icon Rod Stewart brought us “Maggie Mae” which continues to be one of the all time favorite songs, ever. And Rod, well he continues to chase the blondes and bring music into our hearts. Then two hours after we started, Ryan made the announcement that Kris Allen was voted this season’s American Idol. Both he and Adam will go far in the business but I believe that Adam will surpass him with originality, vocal abilities, and stage creativity. And that, my friends, ends another American Idol Season.
